Route logic

Ten days support three coherent chapters

The extra three days beyond the one-week route buy a distinct central Chile chapter: a Casablanca Valley visit, a night in Valparaíso and a protected Santiago return. They do not create another remote region. This ten-day example has nine nights, including the Santiago night before departure.

  1. 01
    Choose one Santiago institution

Use the arrival day for recovery, then pair Plaza de Armas with the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino. Lastarria is an optional meal district, rather than another full sightseeing program.

  2. 02
    Keep four San Pedro nights

Days 3–6 provide one arrival afternoon and three full desert days. Choose nearby geology, a wetland or village day and one flexible cultural outing; higher routes are replacements.

  3. 03
    Make the valley-to-coast day concrete

Reserve one Casablanca estate and the complete journey to the Valparaíso hotel. Day nine combines a short port-city visit with the return to Santiago, leaving day ten for departure.

Days 1–2 · Capital opening

Santiago’s civic and cultural core

Ten days, nine nights: Santiago after Days 1, 2, 7 and 9; San Pedro after 3–6; Valparaíso after 8. Four desert nights precede Casablanca and one coastal night; Day 10 starts in Santiago for departure.

Day one: reach the room and eat locally; a late arrival can occupy the evening. Centropuerto serves Pajaritos, Terminal Sur and República; choose the endpoint for your Metro/final hotel ride. An address transfer may suit the hour, luggage or assistance needs; compare bases in the Santiago guide.

Day two: pair Plaza de Armas with Precolombino, Bandera 361, for pre-Columbian American art and Chilean cultural diversity, then lunch and rest. Make the museum the main venue. Alternatively choose CCLM, Plaza de la Ciudadanía, for its current exhibition; programs and weekday openings vary.

Lastarria offers an optional meal district. One venue, a meal and hotel-to-venue transport make a shorter day. Leave time to prepare the Calama flight.

Days 3–6 · Measured desert block

Three desert days

Day three: fly to Calama, then take the reserved transfer to your full San Pedro address/ayllu. Confirm van/luggage terms; settle with the plaza, church exterior and a meal. Save remote outings for later.

Day four: choose Valle de la Luna geology or community-managed Tulor, whose circular remains reveal Lickanantay agriculture, herding and exchange. Day five: pair Toconao with Chaxa's designated wetland paths. Day six: take missed Tulor, another postponed lower outing, or oasis time, a meal and packing.

Higher outings replace these days: suitable Miscanti–Miñiques on Day 5 needs separate Socaire admission/check-in; El Tatio on Day 6 requires altitude readiness and an early start. Its 2026 rules exclude ages zero through eight; no swimming. Optional astronomy follows a lower day, never immediately before pre-dawn geysers. The four-night Atacama itinerary and San Pedro guide explain each outing's transport and admission.

Days 7–8 · Valley, Pacific, and buffer

Wine, coast and return

Return through Santiago and choose one estate or a direct coastal arrival.

Day seven: San Pedro–Calama → Santiago flight → hotel. Leave remote outings and wineries for another day. Rest and confirm tomorrow’s visit and luggage arrangements; see the flight guide for tickets and baggage.

Day eight: choose Emiliana’s Organic Tasting Tour for vineyard, garden and tasting, or Casas del Bosque’s Aromas for cellar and tasting. Tanino lunch is separate, with seafood, meat and pasta options. Confirm date, language, format and non-tasting companions’ visit or meal. Admission includes neither unrestricted grounds, a table nor onward transport. Both estates plus lunch would delay the coast; compare Casablanca.

Book Santiago hotel → estate → Valparaíso hotel, specifying a non-drinking driver, waiting, meal, supervised luggage and hill address. A Santiago-return tour needs an agreed through-transfer. Alternatively, go straight to Valparaíso for art, architecture and a port meal, retaining one coast night. Car-free: Metro to Pajaritos, dated intercity ticket, then Valparaíso Rodoviario, Pedro Montt 2860 → room. FlixBus names these stops; confirm the ticket and hill-hotel connection with the bus guide.

Days 9–10 · Valley, Pacific, and buffer

Valparaíso morning and Santiago departure

Give the port city its morning, then depart from Santiago.

Day nine: choose Plaza Sotomayor → Plaza de la Justicia → Paseo Yugoslavo and Baburizza for port context, a historic house and hillside collection. These are a manageable half-day's places, not turn-by-turn directions. The museum names El Peral or stairs from Plaza de la Justicia, without certifying today's lift. If slopes/stairs/lift do not suit, arrange the actual approach and assistance with the venue. A closure calls for nearby public spaces, a meal or another confirmed open interior.

Leave time for lunch, hotel bags, the actual intercity departure and a Santiago room; a museum morning cannot also be a full coastal day. The Valparaíso guide develops longer choices.

Day ten: check out and reach the actual terminal with the airline's margin. There is no new coastal/intercity journey. The Santiago night buffers the connection; flight, traffic and operator reliability remain variable.

One coast night provides dinner and a museum morning, not two full cultural days, Viña beach time and several hills. For a larger block, use the central five-day itinerary. Keeping Valparaíso after Days 8 and 9, then Santiago after Day 10, moves departure to Day 11: ten nights and eleven days. The seven-day country route is the shorter desert-and-capital option.

Before paying

Reconcile every movement

Book nine dated hotel nights and verify the journey that joins each one. The central extension works through one coast overnight, with a Santiago room after day nine.

Access

Keep desert dates movable

Reviewed 4 October 2026, Ckari/Ckary remains closed following the May earthquake; October training closures also affect Valle de la Luna and Los Flamencos visits. Use an admitted route. Tulor's exception from the training notice does not establish daily opening. Choose distinct lower geology, archaeology and wetland visits before any high substitute.

Suitability

Treat a high outing as a separate decision

Four nights do not certify altitude readiness. Do not ascend with symptoms; use the altitude and health guide and qualified medical advice. Socaire and El Tatio have separate rules, and weather or symptoms can mean a lower day. Children or travelers avoiding altitude can retain the lower sequence.

Party needs

Choose the version everyone can use

One estate and a separate meal suit wine/food interests; direct coast travel gives art and port history more time. For limited walking, use one Santiago venue and an agreed hill approach; a lift listing guarantees no accessibility. Check companions' estate format. Put fixed work calls on Santiago nights only after the lodging confirms connectivity.

Reservations

Match all nine nights to their movements

Fix international arrival and Day 10 departure, then Santiago Nights 1, 2, 7 and 9. Match Calama flights and full-address transfers to four San Pedro nights. Book one Day 8 estate with onward ride, or direct coast transport. Fit the Valparaíso night, cultural visit, checkout and Day 9 Santiago return together.

The calendar is a planning example, not a confirmed timetable. Estate and museum bookings, public transport, local paths, desert permissions and weather remain date-specific.
