Things to Do in Chile

Give one experience enough time to matter: a forest walk near Pucón, a telescope night outside San Pedro, a Casablanca tasting, a northern wetland or a port museum. The seven routes below lead to the guides that turn each choice into a visit.

Choose the day you want

Start with a place and a manageable commitment

A Santiago museum half-day, a late astronomy session and several consecutive Patagonian walking days ask different things of the same holiday. Choose the experience first, then the base and transport that let you enjoy it.

  1. 01
    Name the experience

A guided telescope session and a research-facility visit are different bookings. A waterfall walk and an overnight trek are different commitments. These are formats to compare, with availability and individual access still to confirm. Comparing guides does not require buying every experience.

  2. 02
Give it a real place in the calendar

Include the journey from the room, the activity and the return. Keep an arrival day smaller than a full visiting day.

  3. 03
    Choose a usable alternative

For an exposed walk, identify a permitted shorter outing. For a canceled night tour, keep a town evening rather than promising another clear sky.

01 · On foot

Hiking and Trekking

Use Pucón for a Huerquehue forest day, or Puerto Natales and the correct park sector for Torres del Paine walking. Los Lagos is a day-walk choice; the W and O require consecutive walking days and an agreed overnight sequence.

  1. A forest day or a traverse

Choose Huerquehue for forest and lake walking without moving between refuges. Choose a Paine trek only when its hardest stage and every night fit.

  2. Use the named route's access check

Huerquehue's Los Lagos access is currently limited; Quinchol and San Sebastián have a dated closure. The hiking and park guides lead to those current checks.

For a specific first comparison, open Paine day hikes.

02 · After dark

Stargazing

From a San Pedro base, SPACE's visitor program combines naked-eye orientation and telescope viewing with a return toward the accommodation. Around Vicuña, Mamalluca offers astronomy and planetarium formats. Decide which kind of evening you want before choosing a region.

  1. Outdoor sky or planetarium

An indoor projection, a telescope session and a scientific daytime visit produce different experiences. Read the named program.

  2. Make the late return work

Confirm language, children's participation, standing or seating needs, warmth and the final hotel drop-off. Leave the next morning suitable for rest.

For a first comparison, open Atacama astronomy.

The examples use the published SPACE program and Mamalluca formats.

03 · Taste and place

Food and Wine

Pair a Casablanca visit with one named estate experience and an arranged driver, or use Chiloé for island cooking and church-town visits. Casas del Bosque's Aromas tour and a separately reserved Tanino meal illustrate why tasting, estate access and lunch must be priced as distinct inclusions.

  1. Choose a preparation or a format

The food guide explains what to order and ask about; the wine guide distinguishes agriculture-led visits, tastings and restaurant stays.

  2. Choose the return before the pours

Use a tour, transfer or driver who abstains from alcohol. A rural tasting reservation does not include a ride back to the room.

For a first comparison, open Chilean food or wine visit formats.

04 · Observe without disturbing

Wildlife and Birdwatching

Lauca offers high-Andean bird observation around Chungará, while the wildlife guides compare penguin and marine outings elsewhere in Chile. A roadside wetland stop, a walking visit and a boat departure have different health, weather and transport demands.

  1. Choose habitat, then the viewing format

Build the trip around the place and method of observation. A species living in the region does not guarantee a sighting on your date.

  2. Give animals room

Stay on authorized approaches and follow the site's distance rules. Decline feeding, baiting or chasing; adapt or leave when the animals need space.

05 · Protected landscapes

National Parks and Nature

Choose separately among Pudeto-area walks in Torres del Paine, Huerquehue's Los Lagos and Queulat's Ventisquero sector. Compare the entrance, walking demand and ride from your base, rather than the park's fame.

  1. Choose the sector that fits

A road viewpoint, forest trail and boat-linked walking sector are different days. Admission alone does not complete their transfers.

  2. Read the current notice

On 4 October 2026, CONAF's Huerquehue notice allowed only Los Lagos; Quinchol and San Sebastián were closed until 15 December. Before booking and departure—even for day visits—recheck it, your route and the national parks selector's dated sources.

06 · Living Chile

Culture and Heritage

Choose Precolombino in Santiago for an object-led cultural visit, Baburizza and the port hills in Valparaíso for art and urban history, or Chiloé's wooden churches for architecture that still serves local worship. Rapa Nui needs interpretation grounded in its living community and park stewardship.

  1. Give the visit a question

Ask how craft, belief, trade or memory shaped the place. One well-interpreted museum or neighborhood chapter can carry a half-day.

  2. Respect the actual setting

Confirm current access, listen to the hosts and ask before photographing people or ceremonies. A religious site remains a place of worship.

07 · The journey is the experience

Road Trips

A Balmaceda round trip through central Aysén, a Pucón-to-Puerto Varas chapter and a coast-and-Casablanca transfer solve different journeys. Choose the endpoints first; then decide whether a rental, a driver or public transport does the required work.

  1. Choose a bounded road section

The road-trip selector distinguishes a Carretera section choice from the ten-day central-Aysén itinerary.

  2. Count the return and the dependencies

Fuel, surfaces, ferries, vehicle permission and the final gateway belong in the same calendar. A one-way map line is not a one-way rental agreement.
