Routes built around real geography
Compare all thirteen routes by calendar dates, hotel nights, effort and the connections they depend on. Choose the main place first, then give arrival, departure and any extra gateway night their actual time.
Count usable days
The cards describe each route's core calendar. Arrival and departure dates have smaller plans than full local days; a Santiago, mainland or park-gateway night may extend the headline duration. Effort refers to the planned activities and transfers, not a guarantee of access or individual suitability.
City culture, wine, desert, island heritage, lake communities and a road journey need different amounts of movement.
Three full city days differ from three calendar dates. Four desert nights and four park nights can require additional departure or town dates.
Flights, booked drivers, ferries, guided sites and remote roads narrow your options. Add margin where the actual onward booking needs it.

01 · 7 calendar days · 6 core nights
For a first Santiago–Atacama visit. Six core nights include four in San Pedro; the Day 7 Santiago return may need another gateway night. Choose this two-base route when your priority is three full desert days with one connected Santiago cultural day. Plaza de Armas and Precolombino or the current Centro Cultural La Moneda program give the capital a clear focus before the Calama flight. In the desert, choose between Valle de la Luna geology, Tulor archaeology and a Toconao–Chaxa wetland day.
City walks and lower desert outings form the core. Miscanti–Miñiques or El Tatio replace a lower day only when suitable and operating; neither is a compulsory addition, and late astronomy should not precede an early high outing.
Confirm both Calama transfers and the Day 7 onward ticket chain. Keep that date for the return, with no remote morning excursion. A final Santiago buffer makes eight dates and seven nights.

02 · 10 calendar days · 9 nights
For desert, capital and coast. Nine nights include four in Santiago, four in San Pedro and one in Valparaíso, with the final Santiago night already counted. Choose it over the seven-day route when one Casablanca estate and a port-city night matter as much as the desert. The four San Pedro nights still hold three full outing days; the extension adds an agreed wine-to-coast journey, then Plaza Sotomayor and the Baburizza area before returning to Santiago on Day 9.
The desert sequence keeps lower geology, archaeology and wetlands available, with high outings as conditional replacements. Valparaíso adds hills and steps; choose an operating ascent or a suitable arranged approach.
Day 7 ends in Santiago; Day 8 joins Emiliana or Casas del Bosque to the coastal hotel, with any Tanino meal reserved separately. Include luggage and an alcohol-free driver. A second coastal night with the final Santiago buffer makes eleven days.

03 · 14 calendar days · 13 nights
Thirteen nights—four San Pedro, five Natales and four Santiago—include all flight dates. Choose Atacama and southern Patagonia for full local days in each: three desert days for lower geology, archaeology and wetlands, then four southern days for two contrasting Paine visits, Natales history and a separate Milodón outing.
Pack for two climates and choose effort separately. Salto Grande is a shorter Paine walk; Base Torres or roadside Lago Grey belongs on another day. High desert outings and park routes remain conditional.
Santiago nights after Days 7 and 13 separate the regional flights from the next commitment. A Punta Arenas flight still needs the complete road connection to Puerto Natales; a Natales service works only on its actual operating date.

04 · 5 calendar days · 4 nights · 3 full visiting days
Four San Pedro nights give three full local days and Day 5 departure; the three-night, four-date variant loses one outing day. Choose this desert stay without the capital-and-coast transfers: arrive for a modest town evening, then pair Valle de la Luna or Tulor with a separate Toconao–Chaxa day. Keep the remaining day for the missed lower visit, rest or one suitable higher replacement.
Lower outings come first, but a numbered day does not establish readiness for altitude. Miscanti–Miñiques and El Tatio need their own suitability and access decisions; keep a lower cultural or town alternative.
Book Calama-to-address transfers and identify who handles community admission, check-in and guiding. The four-night version departs on Day 5; the three-night version on Day 4.

05 · 5 calendar days · 4 nights · 3 full city days
For a complete city stay. Three full days need four nights across five dates; the guide also gives a two-night, three-date gateway version. Choose this when museums and neighborhoods are the purpose of the stay. Connect Plaza de Armas with Precolombino or La Moneda and Lastarria; give Bellavista and La Chascona another day; then use Quinta Normal for Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos. The separate gateway version includes smaller arrival and departure plans.
Neighborhood walks can be shortened with Metro and a single cultural anchor. Bellavista's ascent depends on the funicular's outward and return operation; rain or poor visibility can leave a shorter district visit.
Check venue openings before ordering the days, including Precolombino's Monday closure. The Museo de la Memoria day connects to Quinta Normal on Line 5. A wine or regional excursion replaces a city day and needs its own return.

06 · 10 calendar days · 9 nights
Nine nights from Balmaceda: Coyhaique for preparation, supplies and return; two each in Puyuhuapi (Queulat rainforest), Cerro Castillo (mountains or heritage) and Río Tranquilo (General Carrera Lake). Expect full road days, unlike Puerto Montt–Chaitén's northern ferry route.
Choose a demanding Castillo hike or confirmed Escuela Antigua museum visit; cancellations leave Puyuhuapi's history walk or Río Tranquilo's town/lakeshore. Confirm permitted roads, vehicle coverage/return, fuel, park access and lake operation. Keep Day 8 for Marble Caves, Day 9 for the Coyhaique return and Day 10 for Balmaceda; a late boat cannot delay the return.

07 · 5 park calendar days · 4 park nights
Four nights inside Torres del Paine connect eastern and western sectors across five park dates; add Natales preparation and return nights. Choose this over daily town commutes: start at Las Torres/Central, transfer through Pudeto with an agreed Salto Grande stop, then give Grey its own day before returning to Natales.
Base Torres is a substantial hike; an arranged Laguna Azul outing offers a lower-effort eastern alternative. Salto Grande can stand alone without Cuernos, subject to access and conditions.
Reserve both bases, entry and transfers, including luggage and any waiting vehicle. Confirm connections for Grey shore access or round-trip navigation.

08 · 5 calendar days · 4 nights
For city culture and one producer visit. Four nights split between Santiago and Valparaíso, with Casablanca on the transfer. A final Santiago night moves departure to Day 6. Choose this compact central-Chile route when you want a full Valparaíso day without domestic flights. After Santiago's civic center and Lastarria, Day 3 joins one Casablanca appointment to the coastal hotel. The next full day connects the port, a suitable hill ascent, Paseo Yugoslavo and Baburizza before the Day 5 Santiago return.
City and hill walks have shorter versions; an El Peral ascent depends on operation and a comfortable return. Add Cerro Concepción only when the first port-and-hill chapter leaves time and energy.
Reserve Casas del Bosque with a separate Tanino meal, or an Emiliana visit, and include luggage, waiting time and an alcohol-free driver. Two Santiago nights and two Valparaíso nights are the core; an airport connection may justify a fifth night in Santiago.

09 · 5 island calendar days · 4 island nights
Four Hanga Roa nights give three full local days; mainland gateway nights are extra. Keep the guided Rano Kau–‘Ōroŋo circuit separate from Rano Raraku–Ahu Toŋariki, giving village, quarry and platforms their own context. Use the movable third day for Haŋa Rau/Anakena or a shorter Tāhai–Hanga Roa chapter, or to recover a disrupted circuit.
The core combines guided circuits with manageable local time; dawn visits, extra stops and beach activities are separate choices. The current park rules limit Rano Raraku and ‘Ōroŋo to one visit per ticket, so agree the order with the guide.
Confirm flights, island-entry records, room, park ticket, accredited guide and Mataveri transfers. Day 5 is checkout and departure; plan the mainland connection separately. A fifth island night creates six island dates.

10 · 7 calendar days · 6 nights
For lake towns and selected outdoor days. Six nights split equally between Pucón and Puerto Varas, with the transfer on Day 4 and departure on Day 7. Choose this for two lake-town bases and distinct forest, cultural and eastern-lake outings. Pucón supports a selected Huerquehue route and a Villarrica cultural day, with Huife as a separate substitute. Puerto Varas gives Frutillar's museum or music program and one confirmed Ensenada-area visit their own full days.
Adapt the forest walk to the permitted route and the party; a lake-and-town day is another valid choice. The itinerary does not require a volcano ascent. Rain alternatives and current park access determine the actual outdoor plan.
Arrange the ZCO or bus arrival, the full Pucón–Puerto Varas move on Day 4 and the PMC or bus exit on Day 7. Confirm the final leg to Huerquehue, Huife or Petrohué and the return; a town stop alone does not complete a site visit.

11 · 7 calendar days · 6 nights
Six nights—two Puerto Varas, four Castro—favor island churches, communities and forest/coast over the two-base lakes week. Frutillar anchors the mainland cultural day; three full island days separate Castro–Dalcahue, Cucao–Chanquín and Nercón–Chonchi. Staying in Castro avoids a drive-through visit. An extra mainland night moves departure to Day 8.
Town and heritage chapters can be shorter; the Cucao park outing depends on the permitted route and conditions. Church communities set entry and recording permissions, and the Chonchi museum needs a suitable visiting day.
Keep the Day 3 Pargua–Chacao and Day 7 Chacao–Pargua crossings explicit, including vehicle or through-coach arrangements and the island road legs. The core ends at the booked mainland endpoint; a protected flight can require night 7 and departure on Day 8.

12 · 7 calendar days · 6 nights
Six nights split equally between Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales, including the final Punta Arenas night before Day 7 departure. Choose town services and evenings over the five-day park stay, accepting longer return drives for fewer remote overnights. Punta Arenas adds Strait and maritime history; Natales supports two distinct Paine-return days.
Choose Salto Grande and the central lakes for a shorter park day, then Base Torres or separately arranged roadside Grey on another. Natales museum-and-meal time offers a local alternative.
Use Punta Arenas flights, moving to Natales on Day 3 and back on Day 6. A regular park coach and a complete day tour serve different connections. An operating Natales flight needs its own revised six-night plan.

13 · 6 calendar days · 5 nights
For the northern Carretera Austral's ferry-and-forest journey. Five nights mean one in Puerto Montt, one in Hornopirén, one in Caleta Gonzalo and two in Chaitén. Choose this coastal approach for fiords, Pumalín forest and a full Chaitén outing day. It is a one-way northern route, distinct from the ten-day central-Aysén loop through Balmaceda, Cerro Castillo and Río Tranquilo.
Selected Los Alerces or Lago Negro walks can fit between Caleta Gonzalo and Chaitén. A demanding Volcán Chaitén outing belongs on its own day; El Amarillo forest or town-and-shore time is an alternative when suitable and open.
Confirm the vehicle, La Arena–Puelche boarding arrangement and the actual direct or bimodal Hornopirén–Caleta Gonzalo service. Book the constrained Caleta Gonzalo night before fixing the crossing. Day 6 starts the separately booked onward or return journey; extra return nights are outside the core.
