Five-day island itinerary

Five Days in Rapa Nui

Spend four nights in Hanga Roa across five island dates: arrival, three full local days and departure. Separate the two main park circuits, follow Ma'u Henua's rules and leave the third full day movable.

Route logic

Four island nights, with three full days to listen

This is a five-date island stay, not five full sightseeing days. Hanga Roa is the single base; Days 2–3 separate the major park circuits and Day 4 can hold Haŋa Rau/Anakena, another local chapter or a displaced circuit. Santiago gateway nights sit outside the four island nights.

  1. 01
    Check eligibility before paying

Confirm the visitor category, ordinary Chile entry requirements, accommodation eligibility and return-flight dates before buying the island trip.

  2. 02
    Complete the booked-travel steps

After booking, reconcile issued return travel and lodging evidence, complete the official FUI and keep the confirmation email for the airport process.

  3. 03
    Arrange park access separately

Use Ma'u Henua's ticket channel and accredited-guide directory; the park ticket and guided circuits are separate from permission to enter the island.

Day 1 · Arrive without rushing

Arrive in Hanga Roa

Five island dates mean four Hanga Roa nights: Days 1 and 5 arrive and depart, with Days 2–4 full locally. Stay in one base. Four full local days require six island dates and five nights, giving a disrupted circuit or personal interest more time; compare the Rapa Nui decision Story.

Confirm Mataveri pickup in the actual lodging or tour reservation, including flight, meeting point and address; arrange it separately if excluded. No public-transfer timetable is assumed.

After the airport process and check-in, confirm tomorrow’s guide, departure and circuit. Keep a nearby town outing and meal within the remaining energy and daylight; the guide’s orientation can introduce contemporary island life and heritage without a long drive.

The Museo Rapa Nui visitor page, checked 4 October 2026, still displays closure since 19 July 2024 and suspended in-person service. Older guided-visit information, community work and dated events do not establish reopening or a daily tourist program. Use the meal and booked orientation; add a museum chapter only after an explicit reopening and confirmed visit.

Days 2–3 · Two deliberate park days

Two guided circuits

Keep Rano Kau–'Ōroŋo and Rano Raraku–Ahu Toŋariki on separate guided days.

Day 2: Rano Kau and 'Ōroŋo

Begin and end in Hanga Roa with the booked guide and transport. Ma'u Henua places 'Ōroŋo on Rano Kau, linking its ceremonial village to Tangata Manu. Give the volcanic setting and tradition one interpreted circuit, with permitted stops and times agreed beforehand. Keep Rano Raraku’s separate eastern landscape and interpretation for Day 3, leaving time for a town meal and rest.

Day 3: Rano Raraku and Ahu Toŋariki

Use the guide's actual route for the quarry and eastern platform. Ma'u Henua identifies Rano Raraku as the main moai quarry and Ahu Toŋariki as the restored platform with 15 moai. Give each its own interpretive time rather than treating the quarry as a brief photo stop on the way to the platform.

'Ōroŋo and Rano Raraku allow one visit per ticket. Ask how an interrupted visit is handled before entry; poor weather does not imply unrestricted returns. A Toŋariki dawn outing is optional and needs confirmed guide, vehicle, gate window and sufficient rest. A later circuit may suit better than a sunrise photograph.

Days 4–5 · Community, coast, and departure

A flexible north-coast day

Keep Day 4 movable and Day 5 for departure. A worked gateway calendar—subject to flights—is Santiago 9 October 2026; island arrival 10 October; full days 11–13; mainland return 14 October; onward departure 15 October: seven dates and six hotel nights, four island and two Santiago.

Day four

If a main circuit was displaced, give it this day and drop the optional outing. Otherwise, arrange Haŋa Rau/Anakena with the guide: Ma'u Henua connects it with Hotu Matu'a's arrival in Rapa Nui oral tradition. Let contemporary community interpretation shape the heritage visit, then consider beach time only if conditions and the party suit.

For less driving or energy, choose Tāhai, whose restored ahu and village remains the community park page identifies, then a Hanga Roa meal. Confirm current access and guidance. Craft, music or cultural activities require an actual local provider, accepted booking and agreed participation; community events are not available on demand.

Swimming or a boat outing is a separate, conditions-dependent choice. Confirm the provider, activity and participation terms; keep a land alternative when sea or weather conditions do not suit.

Day five

Fit checkout, luggage and Mataveri pickup to the actual flight. A nearby breakfast or short walk may fit; a distant protected site belongs on a full day. On mainland arrival, complete the Santiago room or onward connection separately. The Santiago guide covers the gateway stay; the Rapa Nui guide gives wider island context.

Before flying

Separate eligibility, island travel and park access

The airline, government entry process, registered accommodation and Ma'u Henua park booking each control a different part of the journey.

Before purchase

Check entry category and lodging

Island-entry eligibility, flights and park access are separate. Check ordinary Chile entry requirements, valid identity documents, visitor category and available return flights with the responsible authority. Verify the actual lodging record through the government requirements and SERNATUR register; neither a marketplace listing nor this itinerary certifies the booking.

Issued bookings

Match the return ticket and stay

Chile Travel specifies tourist round-trip travel within 30 days and registered accommodation or the applicable invitation route. LATAM describes issued-ticket and suitable valid-identity checks. Align flight and lodging dates and confirm the evidence for your own category.

FUI

Keep the official confirmation accessible

Confirm the current submission window and complete the official Formulario Único de Ingreso. LATAM directs visitors to present its confirmation email to PDI at the airport, alongside required identity and booking evidence. FUI does not reserve a guide; a park ticket does not replace island entry.

Park reservations

Book the complete guided circuit

Use Ma'u Henua's official ticket channel and accredited-guide directory. Agree circuits, dates, language, vehicle, permitted stops, current site rules and cancellation terms. A ticket alone does not authorize every protected-site visit; no ticket or appointment is assumed here.

Community

Follow heritage and participation boundaries

Stay on marked routes and at the permitted distance; never touch, climb or move heritage objects. Follow Ma'u Henua's drone and commercial-recording restrictions. Agree personal photography and cultural participation with those involved. A ceremony, home or workshop requires an actual accepted arrangement, not an assumption of visitor access.

Gateway nights

Keep Santiago outside the island count

A mainland night before the island flight and another after the return reduce pressure before separate onward flights; they cannot guarantee recovery from every delay. Use the domestic-flights guide to reconcile actual airports, tickets, flight dates and the onward booking.

As reviewed on 4 October 2026, the museum's official pages continue to list closure from 19 July 2024. Confirm current island-entry, flight and park conditions for the actual travel dates; this itinerary does not determine individual eligibility.
