More time in one place

Long Stays and Remote Work in Chile

A longer stay gives you time for familiar shops, ordinary weekdays and trips beyond the city. Make it work by resolving permission first, then choosing a room, a workspace and a base that support the week you will actually live.

Plan a good weekday as carefully as a good weekend

A view can make a short visit memorable; a desk, a warm room and an easy grocery trip matter repeatedly over a month. Separate the dates you will work from the dates you can travel. Santiago has published coworking options and urban transport; a southern base changes the daily setting, but its particular room and connection still need to prove themselves.

  1. 01
    Stay length and activity

Establish the immigration permission for the intended activity and dates before making a long accommodation commitment.

  2. 02
    One base, fewer moves

Keep working days in one place. Put regional flights and long bus journeys on days that are actually available for travel.

  3. 03
    Test the working day

Try the room's desk, connection and normal call hours before a longer commitment. Identify a usable alternative workspace.

Before the booking

Resolve the permission for what you intend to do

SERMIG states that Permanencia Transitoria is for limited visits without settling in Chile and does not itself authorize paid activities. Its exceptional work authorization covers specific, occasional activities and refers to income earned in Chile or abroad. An overseas employer or customer therefore should not be treated as automatic permission to work from Chile.

  1. 01
    Bring the real circumstances

Ask SERMIG or the appropriate Chilean consulate about your nationality, intended activity, who pays you and the dates. If necessary, obtain advice from a qualified immigration professional. The answer for a holiday does not settle a working stay.

  2. 02
A longer visit has its own dates

Check the expiry shown on the migration record and the applicable process before relying on extra time. The entry guide links the visa table. Also confirm your employer's overseas-work policy and obtain qualified tax advice for your circumstances.

Santiago workdays

Separate an open table from a bookable private room

Santander Work/Café publishes shared tables and free Wi-Fi for clients and non-clients. Its reservation rules say those cowork tables need no reservation, while meeting rooms are restricted to Santander clients and subject to booking rules. A shared table can suit quiet independent work; it does not give you a private room for a confidential call.

  1. 01
    A dedicated office option

WeWork at Apoquindo 5950, Las Condes, lists coworking memberships, dedicated desks and private offices. Its staffed hours are weekdays, 09:00–18:00. Ask which product is available for your dates and what access, room use and charges it includes.

  2. 02
Test the work you actually do

Before committing, test a call, file upload and the software you depend on at the hours you will use them. Confirm guest access and privacy arrangements. A city-wide speed claim or a Wi-Fi symbol cannot establish performance at one desk.

A different daily rhythm

Choose your city base

Use the Santiago guide to compare areas and journeys to workspaces. In Valdivia, Chile Travel links the riverfront market with Isla Teja across Pedro de Valdivia bridge, including its botanical garden and cultural stops.

  1. 01
    A Valdivia week

Near the centre or on Isla Teja, walks and errands can share a day. Check the address, heating, drying space, wet-weather return and internet before relying on the room for calls.

  2. 02
    Days by the lake

Compare Puerto Varas for a lake-based stay. Save lake and park trips for free days; a rural rental can add driving to groceries and workspace visits.

The room and the routine

Choose the place you can comfortably use every day

Start with a shorter, changeable booking when possible, then decide about a longer stay after testing the room. Ask for current photographs of the desk and chair, the heating arrangement and the kitchen equipment you need. Establish whether the connection serves only the apartment or is shared across the building. A monthly discount has little value if the room cannot support your working hours.

  1. 01
    The written total

Obtain the full price and currency for the dates, including utilities, cleaning, laundry, deposits and any service charges. Confirm cancellation, notice and deposit-return terms. For tourist accommodation, match the property in the SERNATUR search.

  2. 02
    The weekly essentials

Locate groceries, laundry and an alternative place to connect before a busy week. Check noise during your call hours and building access after an evening out. Confirm that your insurance covers the duration and planned activities, including any work-related equipment.

Before settling in

Keep the connection, calendar and budget workable

A longer stay needs a repeatable routine and a backup for the parts of that routine you depend on.

01

Phone and data

Check the line and the device separately

SUBTEL's prepaid registration announcement requires identity validation for prepaid service. Its Multibanda FAQ separately explains registration of foreign handsets used with Chilean SIMs. Confirm both with the provider, including passport handling and the process for a stay beyond 30 days.

02

Working hours

Put meetings in the destination calendar

Set a recurring test meeting with the relevant cities and check its local time on the actual future dates. Reserve a quiet, available space for calls and protect travel days from mandatory meetings. Keep essential files available offline within your employer's security rules.

03

The complete month

Compare a lived-in budget

Add the accommodation total, workspace, data, groceries, local transport and regional trips. Include a changeable first stay and an emergency reserve. Use the money and budget guide to compare actual quotes; accommodation permission, work permission and tax treatment remain separate questions.

Time to know a place

Let the free days grow from a settled base

Once the room, permission and working routine are right, the longer stay can become simpler. Leave space for a regular walk, a favourite lunch and regional trips on days you can fully enjoy them.
